Why do you want to serve? My name is Drucilla Willis and I am a Human Services Specialist at the Lemon Grove FRC. I have been with the County of San Diego 20+ years and a Union member since my hire date.. I have been a Union Steward for 13 years. I became a union steward because I felt my representation could have been better so I became a steward. I must be honest Ive had a target on me because of my Leadership skills which is to call the county out when they are wrong. I’m not afraid to speak up for ANY employee and not just my bargaining unit. I. have been on lost time with the union several times and learn some of the ins and outs of how a union works. We have a new president so I’m ready to have a more active role if elected president of our County Chapter. Choose me for your president because if win YOU WIN.
Why do you want to serve? I have proudly served the County for over two decades, the majority of my time as an HSS at the North Inland FRC. Throughout my journey, my passion for advocating for workers' rights led me to become a Steward. My purpose was clear – to amplify the voices of all employees and provide unwavering support. My objective has been to forge connections between our members and Management, fostering a collaborative environment while strengthening the influence of our Union. With all the changes we have been through together, I am eager to embark on the next phase of my journey. I am ready to step into the role of Vice President, broadening impact and extending assistance beyond my immediate office. I firmly believe that this position will empower me to champion the welfare of workers across the County. By facilitating a more inclusive dialogue and cultivating a sense of unity, I am committed to making a meaningful difference that resonates throughout our entire workforce. Together, we can work towards a future where the concerns and aspirations of every worker are not only acknowledged, but also actively addressed. As I strive for the role of Vice President, I am determined in my dedication to uplift all employees, embracing a more comprehensive perspective that reflects the diversity of our union.
Hello, I'm Mrs. Gerrell Howard, a dedicated Human Service Specialist affiliated with North Central FRC's Live Well Center. Over the past decade, I have proudly served our community through my work with the County. From day one, I have been a steadfast Union Member and, for the last nine years, a committed Steward. My passion for advocating for the rights of County workers extends beyond just my office, as I've had the privilege of representing employees from various County locations. My journey as a Steward began when, during my first year at the office, I found myself without someone to turn to for support. I didn't want any new or seasoned worker to experience the isolation I felt that first year. To ensure I could be the best advocate possible, I dedicated myself to continuous learning, attending numerous training sessions and fulfilling my responsibilities at the Union Hall, even during lost time incidents. Today, I am excited to announce my candidacy for County Chapter Vice President, where I hope to utilize my leadership skills in collaboration with President Crystal Irving and Vice President Nathan Wollmann. With their leadership and your unwavering support, I believe we can drive meaningful change and improvements for all County workers. I am committed to taking a more active role in all aspects of the County Chapter's work, and together, with County workers standing alongside us, we are an unstoppable force ready to create a brighter future for everyone.
Why do you want to serve? SEIU 221 serves as a strong check to balance actions taken by County leadership. I believe that holding management accountable makes for a better workplace for County workers. By electing me as your representative for Chapter Secretary, you can expect thorough and committed action that follows through on behalf of County workers for the benefit of all represented employees. I am a current union Steward for the Library department as well as represent the department without fail at Labor Management Meetings.
Why do you want to serve? I like working for the County, and I like my coworkers! We work together as a team to get the job done, and we work together as a team to get what we need in our working conditions and paychecks -- that's the union. We got a good contract last time, but this time we can get a GREAT one. How do we do that? By building membership, building engagement, building power. When we sign up our teammates and friends, when we show our Union Pride on the job, we can get everything we need in every contract, no matter which politicians happen to be on the Board of Supervisors. As Treasurer, I will work to focus our Union's energy and target our budget where it will do the most good for us as County workers: building our membership into an unstoppable force to get everything we need and deserve in our paychecks, our benefits, our workplaces, and even beyond as we continue to advocate for social and economic justice throughout San Diego County and the world!
Why do you want to serve? Over the years of my professional journey, I have witnessed the adverse impacts of wage disparity, lack of job security, and poor working conditions on colleagues, which is why I am a fervent advocate for labor rights and a believer in the strength of collective action. These experiences have ignited in me a passion to effect change. I am fully committed to being a resonant voice in the council for union members, I aim to cultivate an atmosphere where members feel seen, heard, and empowered, fostering a strong, active union that defends its members' rights and leverages collective bargaining power. Driven by service to my fellow workers and not personal gain, my goal as a council member is to lead the way towards better labor conditions, equality, and fairness. Hence, bringing a positive change in our workplaces and the broader labor environment.
Why do you want to serve? I want the best contract for all County workers.
Why do you want to serve? I want to represent my coworkers by advocating for the under-represented on subjects such as: cost of living, in addition to increases in rent and inflation, negatively effect the San Diego County workforce and staff retention.
Why do you want to serve? I have an intense desire to help County employees be paid fair wages. I also would like to help the supervisors understand that County employees are irreplaceable and they should be valued.
My interest in this election is to make a difference in the County for all RN's and nursing over all. At times, it seems like we need a louder voice and representation to protect our positions and ensure we have fair wages. Over the years, there has only been small steps for nurses and some still struggle to pay bills, support their families and make ends meet. Working with the union and County I feel I can make an impact for all of the nurses in the County.
Why do you want to serve? Becoming a Council Representative for bargaining unit MM is an opportunity that resonates deeply with me due to my strong commitment to advocating for the collective rights, interests, and well-being of our fellow union members. The cost of living is San Diego continues to increase and ensuring all members receive fair compensation that allows them to maintain a comfortable standard of living would be my top priority
Why do you want to serve? The current foundational contract was just the beginning of the journey, not the end. I am tired of seeing bright Assistant Engineers join the County and leave for the City or Caltrans as soon as they build experience and credentials. I am tired of seeing Civil Engineers and Senior Civil Engineers leave the County for other agencies. In both cases, it is higher salaries, now, and better retirement packages that lure them away. Meanwhile, our infrastructure is crumbling without the experienced staff to design and construct maintenance projects before they become emergency projects. I want to serve to build a very strong contract to bring back and retain talent, before it is too late.
Why do you want to serve? To represent my coworkers to the best of my abilities to ensure an equitable contract that benefits all county employees. Representing county workers is very important work, especially those that feel underrepresented by their management. I commit to serving the workers of San Diego County in this capacity.
Why do you want to serve? I am a County of San Diego Employee and the President of the ERG AAACE. I want to serve as the Council Representative on the Bargaining Unit. I believe my master’s degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology, my background in Management/Human Resources, and my current experience with the County of San Diego and it’s processes makes me a prime candidate to be able to in good faith negotiate the details of the bargaining agreement through the voices of the employees to seek a common goal with the employers. I want to improve workplace conditions and protect employees. I want the employees to feel like their voice is heard and establish rights and responsibilities of the employers and employees. The first step is to achieve a consensus with the workers. I do understand that we have diverse needs to consider, which is going to take time, patience and clear communication to determine the critical issues that will benefit the classification overall. The intentional outcome in doing this is to increase living wages, improve quality of health, pension benefits and working conditions. The purpose is to advocate for the economic security of employees, while maintaining a democratic environment at the workplace. Thank you.
Why do you want to serve? I want to serve as a council representative so that I can be an advocate and a voice for the changes and needs most desired by the PR bargaining unit. This is a great opportunity for me to get involved and be an active member of the PR group.
Why do you want to serve? I want to serve because I believe in the power of the collective, competitive compensation and maintaining well-balanced and fulfilling roles. As a crisis clinician I have learned to make quick and meaningful decisions, work in collaborative settings, and often start tough conversations that require input from all angles. My priority is to support, listen and use solution focused initiates to alleviate some of the pressure points that are hindering the growth within medical services. I'm proud to be a member of medical services as I believe it takes talented and brave folks to take on caring for some of San Diego's most vulnerable communities in jail settings. We need healthy, passionate, and cared for staff to do the vital work of working within detentions. Sin miedo al exito equipo!
Why do you want to serve? Everyday we get up and go to work for the people of San Diego County. This is the time for us to step up, ask for what we need and let our voices be heard at the negotiation table. Having been part of the last contract negotiation team I know that we laid a solid foundation to build upon for this contract and every contract thereafter. The climate has never been better to fight for what we deserve so that we're not just surviving but thriving in San Diego.
Why do you want to serve? I have been a County of San Diego employee for over 10 years. I want to do my part in representing the needs of our diverse classification by providing a voice to all, especially the smaller job classifications, who often get overlooked during contract negotiations. I will work hard and look forward to serving you, the SEIU 221 members, on the County Chapter Leadership Council. I believe in the power of advocacy we have as a group; We Are Stronger Together!
Hello, my name is Raymond Wood, and I would am grateful for the opportunity to receive your vote to serve as a member of the County Chapter Leadership for SEIU Local 221, representing the PS Bargaining Unit. I have worked for the county for over 15 years and come from a family of proud union members, as my father worked with Cesar Chavez throughout the 1970’s. I am also a United States Veteran, and I plan to use all of this experience to best represent the PS Unit and all of the County Chapter. As a representative, I will always put all union members' needs ahead of my own, and I will fight for better compensation and benefits. I understand that this leadership group will be the help initiate the process for the next Contract Negotiation and to forward the priorities of my Union brothers and sisters. A primary mission I have is to fight to improve the Tier D retirement and move everyone over to a better option. This feels like the most impactful place to start, we need to feel like we can safely retire. However, this is only the beginning. I know representing the County in this capacity is an important responsibility, and I would be honored to receive your vote. I encourage all of you to use your right to be heard at the polls, please vote for Ray Wood for PS Bargaining Representative for SEIU 221. Thank you!
Why do you want to serve? I have been working as a correctional nurse at Vista Detention Facility for the last 2.5 years and would like to run for the RN seat on the Leadership Council. There is substantial progress that needs to be made within the department, notably improving staffing and streamlining work-flow. As healthcare professionals, we work every day to ensure the health and safety of our patients and provide dignified patient-centered care. I want to not only advocate for our patients, but also the CNAs, LVNs and RNs that serve them. My goal is to offer my unique perspective and fight for our healthcare workers so that our work will continue to be highlighted. Thank you.
Why do you want to serve? Continue to fight for PSWs, PSSs and get some continuity in SWs, APS and CWS pay scales and promotions and steps.
Why do you want to serve? I would like to serve to be able to provide accurate contract negotiations information to South Region CWS. I would like to make sure CWS staff is represented correctly and fairly in wage negotiations.
