Historic Raises
SEIU 221 members fought for years to win the big Equity Raises CM & CR workers just got. Here's how we won those raises now and for the future.
Anti-worker politicians used to dominate the San Diego County Board so our pay lagged behind other California counties. But once SEIU 221 members and our allies began electing pro-worker officials to the County Board, we pushed for an "Equity Study" showing the big raises County workers deserved. Below is the history of our winning fight. (Here's our Wage Calculator if you want to see the CM & CR raises won by SEIU 221).
- Dec. 10, 2019 | We deliver our Equity Study petition to the County Board signed by more than 500 members.
- Aug. 12, 2020 | The San Diego Union-Tribune reports on our SEIU 221 members at a virtual County budget hearing pressing for “a comprehensive study of wages.”
- Aug. 25, 2020 | Our first big win! The County Board approves the Equity Study, which paves the way for the big Equity raises in our 2022 contract.
- Nov. 4, 2021 | SEIU 221 County members meet for a big bargaining strategy session. The Equity Raises are high on the agenda.
- March 15, 2022, etc. | SEIU 221 members pack the County Board meeting in March, April and May calling for the Equity Raises and a strong contract.
- April 23, 2022 | With the County wavering on big raises, we hold our SEIU 221 Super Rally, drawing major media coverage.
- June 6, 2022 – VICTORY! SEIU 221 members ratify our contract with the County and the big raises in our Equity Study become a reality.
