San Diego Strong
SEIU Local 221 is San Diego’s County union. Here’s why it matters that we’re based right here in San Diego.
Our Super Rally Won Strong Support for All County Workers
When the County balked at our call for strong pay raises this spring, SEIU 221 went into action. Because San Diego is our home, we knew how to hold a Super Rally that would draw major media coverage and generate strong public support for County workers.
NBC 7’s story on our April Super Rally made clear that all County workers deserved strong raises. Within a month, SEIU 221’s bargaining team had won an historic agreement that included strong base-wage raises and the unprecedented Equity Raises that won additional pay hikes for 80% of County employees, including CM and CR workers.
The SEIU 221 Advocacy Center: Powerful Representation for Individual Members
In addition to holding Super Rallies, SEIU 221 also provides powerful representation for our individual members. The SEIU 221 Advocacy Center has a team of skilled and dedicated advocates whose primary focus is providing individually tailored representation to all workers in our bargaining units.
The representatives in our Advocacy Center have 25+ years of experience representing San Diego County Employees. Our advocates are former San Diego County workers and union stewards. On average, our advocates provide representation in more than 600 cases a year and have a strong track record winning successful outcomes for represented employees.
Some of our Advocacy Center’s recent victories include:
- A termination and a suspension reversed in their entirety at the Sheriff’s Department
- Winning bilingual backpay and a higher rate of bilingual pay
- Letters of Warning removed from employee’s files
